What Young Movers is
Young Movers at Asana Physiotherapy in Maple Ridge is a kinesiologist-led small-group class for children ages 7 to 11. The focus is physical literacy: the competence and confidence to move well across many activities, not a single sport drill session and not adult-style strength training.
Classes use playful, challenge-based activities to build coordination, agility, balance, and fundamental skills such as running, jumping, landing, and changing direction with better control.
You may still see the older label Young Movers Program online. The class offer is Young Movers under the updated page name.
What kids work on in class
Sessions keep kids engaged and moving. Coordination and agility work may include reaction games and obstacle-style challenges for footwork, spatial awareness, and quick decision-making. Balance and stability drills support postural control for sport and everyday play.
Fundamental movement practice covers jumping, landing, running, and changing direction with coaching on safer, more efficient patterns. Group challenges also support teamwork, communication, and a positive class culture.
The environment is supportive and non-competitive. Instructors modify tasks so kids of different starting abilities can participate.
Who this class is for
Young Movers suits kids ages 7 to 11 who play junior sports and want better movement skills, children who want to feel more coordinated and athletic, and families looking for professional, safety-minded coaching in a fun group setting. It also fits kids who simply need a structured, enjoyable way to stay active.
This is not a physiotherapy treatment appointment. If your child has a recent injury, post-surgical limits, significant pain, or unclear medical clearance for activity, contact us first. Physiotherapy or a one-on-one kinesiology visit may be the better starting point.
How Young Movers differs from other options at Asana
Foundations Strength Training is an adult beginner strength class. Back & Core Foundations and Stretch & Reset are adult mobility and stability classes. Private Training is one-on-one coaching, usually for teens or adults depending on the plan.
Young Movers is specifically designed for ages 7 to 11 with play-based physical literacy work in a small group.
Physiotherapy assesses and treats injury with a clinical plan. Many families use Young Movers when kids are healthy and ready for coached movement practice, or after clinician clearance following care.

What to expect in class
Arrive ready to move in comfortable athletic clothes and indoor shoes if required for the studio floor. Sessions are active and game-like, with clear coaching and room to try, rest, and try again.
Kids practice movement skills in short stations or group challenges rather than long lectures. The small-group format helps the instructor give more individual feedback than a large recreation class typically allows.
Classes are held at Asana Physiotherapy, 112-22633 Selkirk Avenue, Maple Ridge. Spot availability and schedule are listed in online booking.
